A retired father of six and grandfather of nine in Campbellford is celebrating his first big lotto win.
After playing the lottery for decades, Elwood Varty, of Campbellford, won $100,000 through a Lotto Max Dream Draws’ top prize in May, OLG announced in a recent release.
“I was buying a Lotto Max ticket while the Dream Draws were happening. I kept the ticket in the book I was reading and checked it after the draw,” shared Varty, while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings.
“I took it to the clerk and the lottery machine froze – I couldn’t believe I had actually won,” recalled Varty.
“I told my wife, and she thought it was a prank. She didn’t believe it either.”
Varty described the win as “amazing and life-changing.”
He plans to save his winnings for the time being.
The winning ticket was purchased at Rx Drug Mart on Grand Road in Campbellford.
According to OLG, from March 26 to May 3, 2024, every $5 purchase of Lotto Max at participating OLG retail locations included a Dream Draws ticket, with a chance to win up to $100,000.
