Northumberland-Peterborough South was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and came into effect with the call for the 42nd Canadian federal election that was scheduled for October of 2015.
When the next federal election is called, our riding will officially take on its new name of Northumberland-Clarke.
MP Philip Lawrence explains.
Lawrence said that the process happens every ten years or so to adjust ridings based on population.
So don’t be surprised when your next voting notice calls for you to vote in the riding of Northumberland-Clarke.
Lawrence tells us where Clarke originated.
Lawrence says that adding Clarke is an appropriate nod to the history of our community and former municipality of Clarke.
According to the MP, the most significant change to the riding’s boundaries will be removing Peterborough South which will be added to the Peterborough riding for the next election.
Lawrence also says that Alderville First Nation will continue to be represented in our riding – a request that came from Alderville itself which Lawrence says reflects the deep relationships the First Nation has with its surrounding communities.
Changes won’t come into effect until the next federal election, on or before October of 2025, so for now we remain Northumberland-Peterborough South.
