From fireworks to tasty treats, live performances and more, Brighton’s Canada Day lineup is taking shape.
Brighton community events committee chair Lloyd Hutchinson says this year’s Canada Day festivities will see the return of several traditional favourites, with activities stretching across town.
Rounding out the activities at King Edward Park will be a kid’s fishing pond with prizes, an interactive display with the Brighton Fire Department, and a Brighton Arts Council display.
And that’s just the rundown for the free, family-friendly fun running 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
As part of the fun at the park, Brightonians and visitors can also celebrate the grand reopening of the Shed at King Ed and support local with shopping until 3 p.m. on July 1. The transformed ball canteen space serves as a pop-up space for vendors, startups and entrepreneurs to show off their unique wares and gems.
Food trucks and vendors will also be set up at King Edward Park.
Live music, free cake, and more will round out the day, explains Hutchinson.
The opening ceremony is also hosted at King Edward and will include words from Mayor Brian Ostrander and emcee Tom Rittwage starting at 11 a.m.
Local musicians are set to perform live at King Edward and Memorial Park for the day.
DownBeat will perform at King Edward from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Dr. Delicious and the Fantastic Flavours will rock the stage at Memorial Park downtown from 7 to 9 p.m.
After this, folks can head back to King Edward to wrap the day with an excellent show of fireworks – and this year’s display is a must-see, explains Hutchinson.
Organizers will also be handing out 500 or so free glow sticks while supplies last, notes Hutchinson.
And up at the Proctor House Museum fun will also return with a local artisan vendor market, historical tours, and strawberry shortcakes with ice cream. Visitors can swing by from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
