YMCA Northumberland has announced that Dan Bulger, a long-time volunteer and former board member, has been appointed as an Officer to YMCA Canada’s Fellowship of Honour.
This prestigious accolade, the highest awarded by YMCA Canada, recognises individuals with exceptional contributions to the YMCA movement.
YMCA Northumberland President & CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick tells us she could be more pleased for him.
Dan Bulger’s association with the YMCA spans over four decades, beginning in 1978. Since 1982, he has led the Waterpower Fitness Class in Cobourg, a unique pool-based workout that attracts a diverse audience. Dan has dedicated over 5,000 volunteer hours to this program alone, inspiring participants to become volunteers and donors.
According to Kirkpatrick, Bulger is a shining example of the best of the YMCA.
Beyond his aquatic contributions, Dan has been crucial in program development, leadership, and fundraising campaigns. His efforts have significantly advanced YMCA Northumberland’s mission, aiding in the construction of new facilities, program enhancement, and service expansion.
Kirkpatrick says Bulger has contributed in just about every way a person can.
With a history of giving, Kirkpatrick says it was inevitable that his philanthropy would rub off on those taking his lessons.
“Dan is truly deserving of this prestigious recognition,” said Kirkpatrick. “His tireless efforts and dedication have positively impacted countless lives in our community and beyond. We wouldn’t be the Y we are today without him.”
Dan Bulger will receive the Fellowship of Honour Medal in Ottawa this September, cementing his legacy of inspiring and strengthening the YMCA community.
