The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with the Municipality of Port Hope Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), arrived on scene where two occupants of one vehicle were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
During the investigation, officers determined that the driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year old from Cobourg, was impaired. He was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and dangerous operation. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
All three lanes of the highway were closed from approximately 8:35 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. for the investigation and removal of involved vehicles.
