The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Cyber-Enabled Fraud Team is investigating a significant cryptocurrency investment scam, where victims have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The public is being warned to avoid the fraudulent websites “How2Crypto-dot-com” and “How2Crypto-dot-net”.
If you or someone you know has interacted with these websites, it is crucial to contact your local police service and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501 or visit antifraudcenter.ca for assistance.
To protect yourself:
Remember that once you send cryptocurrency, it is gone.
Government agencies do not accept cryptocurrencies.
Always conduct your own due diligence, ask questions, and thoroughly research before sending anyone your cryptocurrency.
The OPP urges everyone to stay vigilant and protect themselves from falling victim to these scams. If you suspect any fraudulent activity, report it immediately to help prevent further losses.
