Quinte West OPP say a recent commercial vehicle safety blitz led to several vehicles inspected being taken off the road, and more than 20 charges laid under the Highway Traffic Act.
The OPP’s highway safety division TIME team and the Ministry of Transportation conducted the joint commercial vehicle safety initiative on Thursday, July 11, said OPP.
As of Friday, OPP confirmed more than half the vehicles inspected were at least temporarily taken out of service.
According to OPP, 21 vehicles were inspected. Eleven – or 52 per cent – of those were taken out of service until repairs could be completed, and seven – or 33 per cent – had licence plates removed for serious safety defects, said police.
OPP said 22 charges in total were laid under the Highway Traffic Act as part of the enforcement effort.
Charges related to pre-trip and logbook violations, inoperative brakes, plates not being authorized, expired annual inspection and no commercial vehicle operator’s registration (CVOR), reported OPP.
