The Township of Hamilton celebrated the grand opening of the renovated Laurel Park playground on Friday, August 2, 2024.
The recently installed upgrades were made possible by a $30,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Northumberland Peterborough South MPP David Piccini was on hand for the ribbon cutting.
Piccini praised the township and local residents for their commitment to accessible and inclusive community spaces.
“Ontario is committed to keeping our green spaces alive in our community, but also suitable for everyone,” said Piccini. “The Laurel Park playground will create a safe and accessible place that families and children of all ages can enjoy.”
Located at 21 Lorraine Avenue, the new playground features accessible surfacing, slides, climbing equipment, and swings, including an accessible swing. Mayor Scott Jibb expressed pride in the collaborative effort, stating, “The Laurel Park playground is a great example of how collaborative efforts can have meaningful benefits for our community.”
Mayor Scott Jibb says the project was fueled by community effort.
Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Paul Rosebush tells us, this is exactly the type of project the foundation looks for.
According to Trevor Capperton, Manager of Parks and Facilities Township of Hamilton, the project has enjoyed community support at every step of the process.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation supports projects like this to build vibrant communities across the province.
