Port Hope is set to come alive with the sounds of jazz as the 2024 Port Hope Jazz Festival kicks off from August 22 to 25, 2024.
The festival, organized by the non-profit Port Hope Jazz, promises four days of exceptional music, featuring top Canadian jazz artists performing at various venues throughout the municipality.
The festival begins with a free concert in Memorial Park on Thursday headlined by the talented Joy Lapps. Known for her captivating performances, Lapps is set to delight audiences in this open-air event presented in collaboration with Road to Cultivate.
Festival Artistic Director Colleen Allen tells us more.
Port Hope Jazz, established in 2001 as the All-Canadian Jazz Festival, has a long history of bringing jazz to the community. After a brief hiatus and rebranding, the organization has continued to grow, and this year will offer concerts at intimate local venues such as The BLou Room, Beamish House, The Ganaraska Brewery and a must see performance on Saturday night at the Port Hope United Church featuring Juno award winning Kellylee Evans.
According to Allen, the Port Hope United Church was seemingly made for musical performances.
On Sunday, the church will host a Jazz Worship Service at 10:25 a.m. featuring Tom Reynolds, Alex Dean, Lorne Nehring and George Koller as well as Jazz Vespers at 4:30 p.m. with Colleen Allen, Fern Lindzon and George Koller which are free to attend with a goodwill offering.
This year, the festival will continue its tradition of celebrating jazz in all its forms, with performances spread across Port Hope. Whether you’re a jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, the Port Hope Jazz Festival 2024 offers something for everyone.
