No injuries are being reported after a pontoon plane crashed and sank in Catchacoma Lake Wednesday morning, say police.
Peterborough County OPP and emergency crews were dispatched after a call reporting a plane crashing into the lake in the Municipality of Trent Lakes at about 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, reported OPP.
“Police, along with fire and EMS, made their way to a local marina located off County Road 507 where the two occupants of the plane had been brought to,” said OPP, in a recent release. “Witnesses stated that they observed the plane coming in for a landing but upon contacting the water, the plane flipped.”
According to police, observers went to where the plane had crashed in the water and brought both the pilot and passenger safely to shore.
No injuries were reported, said police, in their afternoon update.
The plane reportedly sank over 100 feet into the water, and a local marina has been contacted to help with recovery.
Police have also notified Transport Canada and the Ministry of the Environment.
No other details were released by police.
