
There is a new Member of Provincial Parliament for the Bay of Quinte.
Tyler Allsopp of the Progressive Conservatives will be representing the riding at Queen’s Park after a tightly contested race, edging out Liberal candidate Sean Kelly by just over 2,000 votes. (14,430 to 12,428)
New Democrat Amanda Robertson came in third place with 8607, with the Green’s Lori Borthwick placing fourth at 1186.
There was minimal support for three other candidates, with Margaret Schuler of the New Blue Party in fifth spot (369), Independent John Turmel in sixth (149) and Libertarian Mark Snow in seventh (129).
Overall voter turnout is estimated at 38.45%.
The riding was previously led by former Progressive Conservative energy and education minister Todd Smith, who stepped down last month to take a position in the private sector with Candu Energy.
Bay of Quinte has a population of more than 116,000 and is made up of a part of Belleville, and all of Prince Edward and Quinte West.
