Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre is looking forward to your support for their 17th annual Walk-A-Mile event.
It will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, in downtown Cobourg, to support local women and children in need. This year’s walk is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause. Registration and breakfast, provided by the Lions Club of Cobourg, will begin at 9:30 a.m., and if the start seems a bit early for a Saturday morning, you can grab a coffee that will be offered by Starbucks Cobourg.
Cornerstone’s Cayne Fordham tells us the day will once again kick-off with the first responders challenge.
Fordham tells us that this year in addition to Cobourg Police Service, Cobourg Fire and Port Hope Police Service they’ll be welcoming the Northumberland Paramedics to the event.
Following the first responders challenge, the walk itself will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Fordham tells us that the event will once again coincide with Cobourg’s Harvest Festival.
Participants are encouraged to bring friends, family, and even pets to make it a fun-filled morning.
We asked Fordham how big a role this fund-raiser plays for Cornerstone and their ability to help the nearly 2000 women and children they supported last year.
The minimum participation fee is $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged 18 and under, with all proceeds going toward supporting women and children in the community. For those unable to attend, donations can still be made through Cornerstone’s JustGiving page, where supporters can contribute or sponsor a participant or team member.
This year’s sponsors so far include “Stiletto Sponsors” Balder Corporation, Caeedar, Canadian Tire Cobourg, Post Consumer Brands, Spoolon Manufacturing, Cobourg Police Service, Shoppers Drug Mart, Wharram Tree Services, Part Time CFO Services, Stadtke Plumbing & Heating, Port Hope Benjamin Moore, Cameco, Cobourg Nissan and Ganaraska Finacial.
This annual event continues to be a meaningful way for the Cobourg community to come together, raise awareness, and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
