A third individual has been arrested as Northumberland OPP continue to probe an alleged assault at Warkworth Institution.
In an update Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, police confirmed a third arrest after a warrant issued and arrest on Thursday.
The accused is a 37-year-old from Renous, New Brunswick, who is charged with aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon, said OPP.
As previously reported earlier this week, a 20-year-old from Agassiz, British Columbia, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the investigation.
Earlier this month – on Sept. 12 – police reported that a 34-year-old from Loyalist Township was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and aggravated assault as part of their investigation.
OPP started their investigation in the summer after responding to a report of an assault at the medium-security facility “involving a number of individuals.” This was on the night of June 10.
The alleged incident resulted in two people being airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
