A GoFundMe has been launched by Amanda Johnston for four-year-old Declan MacDonell from Cobourg, who was severely injured in a horrific pit bull attack on October 8, 2024.
Declan, known as “Decy” to his loved ones, was rushed to Northumberland Hills Hospital and later transferred to SickKids Hospital in Toronto for emergency surgery that lasted nine hours. He sustained life-threatening injuries and at the time of this writing remained sedated in the ICU, with his parents, Colin and Heather, by his side.
The GoFundMe hopes to raise funds to help Declan’s family cover lost income, transportation, and accommodation costs as they stay close to him in Toronto during his recovery. Declan, who started junior kindergarten in September, has a love for dinosaurs and dreams of becoming a paleontologist. He is dearly loved by his family, including his siblings, Aiden (6) and Brynlee (1).
“We don’t know how this journey will go, but we do know the path ahead will be challenging,” reads the fundraiser.
The community is invited to donate to help ease the financial burden as Declan’s parents focus on his healing. Donations will help cover any unexpected expenses the family may face in the coming weeks and beyond.
