YMCA Northumberland has announced that nominations are now open for the 2024 Peace Medal Awards, honouring individuals and groups who contribute to peace and positive change in the community.
The Peace Medal Awards, now in their 36th year, celebrate the values of Participation, Empathy, Advocacy, Community, and Empowerment (PEACE). Recipients will be recognized during the annual Peace Medal Breakfast on Thursday, November 21st, at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn & Convention Centre.
The Y’s Kathryn Harrison shares some of the details.
According to Harrison, the medals are given out across the country to honour Canadian peace makers.
Eunice Kirkpatrick, President and CEO of YMCA Northumberland, emphasized the importance of the awards. “Now, more than ever, it’s essential to recognize individuals in our community who make both local and global impacts,” says Kirkpatrick. “The honourees at our annual YMCA Peace Medal Breakfast not only exemplify social responsibility but also inspire others to take meaningful action.”
Harrison tells us the awards recognize group, individuals and youth promoting peace and social responsibility.
The YMCA encourages the public to nominate those who make a difference, whether locally or internationally. Self-nominations or nominations for YMCA staff and paid professionals are not eligible.
Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, and can be submitted online or in person.
