The Brighton Leos – the youth division of the local Lions International Service Club – are raising money for the Lions Dog Guides program.
Janet Marissen is with the Brighton Lions.
The Leos operate out of East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS). November 23 is the first day their cats and dogs treats and toys will be sold at Sobeys in Brighton. If you can’t make it then, mark your calendar now for their return to Sobeys on December 7.
This year the Leos have pledged to raise $5000 for the building fund for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. The ENSS chapter is one of only 2 Leo Clubs in Canada offering that support.
The Guide Dogs program matches highly-trained dogs with those who require a service animal. It costs approximately $35,000 to raise and train the dogs then partner them with a client.
Marissen says the Brighton Leos represent the youth movement and future of the Lions club.
Marissen says the Leos also support in-school efforts.
The ENSS Leos chapter was founded in 2012.
There is an advisor from the Lions Club to assist the Leos and teach them about the organization’s objectives and how to run their meetings.
