If you’re looking to find some unique gems for the holidays and support Northumberland artists, be sure to swing by the Colborne Art Gallery for its final show of the season.
“The Art of Giving” is running now through to Dec. 15 at the historic downtown gallery, featuring more than a dozen artists’ works.
Permanent Colborne Art Gallery member and multi-media artist Helen van Poorten, who works with pastels, watercolours, jewelry, and more, tells us the gallery is decked out for Christmas and more about the show.
The Colborne Art Gallery, which is located at 51 King St. E., helps shine a light on local talent regularly with its permanent artists, as well as with guest artists. And this show is no exception, with the addition of four unique guest artists for the holidays, van Poorten tells us.
In addition to Bex Bruneau, Brighton woodworker Larry Spencer is in the spotlight for the show.
Van Poorten also tells us Brenda Sullivan, a Port Hope favourite, is back.
Rounding out the guest list is the Salem Valley Quilters, a group of a dozen women who quilt together in Colborne and turn the profits from their quilts into donations for charitable causes around Northumberland. The ladies have several reasonably-priced pieces up for grabs as well – it’s just a good variety for people to come and check out, adds van Poorten.
Paintings of all types, photography, jewelry, and more are also part of the show.
The Colborne Art Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is always free.
After this show wraps on Dec. 15, the gallery won’t be back in action until the start of next March.
Run as a co-operative, the gallery is also always open to new memberships, with application information available online, notes van Poorten. More information on the artists is also accessible via the website.
“We will be accepting new members in the new year, so anybody’s who’s interested can certainly apply.”
