Prince Edward County OPP say they’ve laid additional charges in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation where losses are estimated at more than $500,000.
In an update on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024, police said additional victims have come forward in their ongoing investigation.
OPP first reported charges in this probe back in July, saying they also had help with the investigation from the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC).
“Officers laid charges in July of this year in connection with a lengthy fraud investigation looking into (alleged) offences dating back several years with numerous victims,” said police, on Friday. “The losses are estimated to be over approximately $500,000.”
As a result of the ongoing investigation, police said Paul Marconi, 65, of Prince Edward County, has been charged with an additional two counts of fraud over $5,000, and two counts of theft over $5,000.
On Friday, police said the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Jan. 8, 2025.
The investigation is continuing and anyone with information surrounding these incidents is urged to contact Prince Edward County OPP at 1-888-310-1122, said police.
Earlier this year, on July 30, OPP reported that the accused was charged with 15 counts of fraud over $5,000, 15 counts of theft over $5,000, and four counts of make a false statement in writing – the making of a loan.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
