If you’re looking for an out-of-this-world gift to give this Christmas, you may want to consider astronomy.
Eastern Ontario astronomer Gary Boyle says sky watching can be rewarding and starting small is often a good way to begin.
Boyle says if you know your gift recipient has more than just a passing interest in stargazing, avoid low-end telescopes.
Boyle says astronomy is not inexpensive and even a decent first telescope will cost several hundred dollars.
Boyle says the best telescope is the one you’re always going to use. For his money, that’s the Dobsonian telescope because it’s easy to set-up.
Boyle says once the binoculars or telescopes are unwrapped, there are always opportunities to learn from the astronomy community by joining a local astronomy club or attending a public star party.
