Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the Northumberland and Quinte regions, saying bitter temperatures are in store for tonight (Tuesday) through to Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, Environment Canada issued the alert, saying an Arctic airmass will bring wind chill values near minus 30 to 35 to the area.
Temperatures are anticipated to “moderate” Wednesday afternoon.
Officials are reminding the public that extreme cold puts everyone at risk and of the importance of dressing in layers.
The outer layers should be wind resistant. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill, reiterated officials.
People should watch for cold-related symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
