Selena Forsyth is Northumberland Hills Hospital Auxiliary President. It’s a role she’s well suited for, having gained experience volunteering in just about every role available at the hospital.
For over 100 years, the Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Auxiliary has been a cornerstone of compassionate care in Northumberland, offering invaluable support to patients, visitors, and hospital staff. Forsyth says they have over 280 active volunteers who play a vital role in delivering quality health care and enhancing patient experiences.
From greeting visitors at the door to assisting patients in the Emergency Department, NHH volunteers serve in a variety of roles and are deeply involved in fundraising and business services, operating vending machines and coordinating events like the Marg Hilborn Plant Sale. Their efforts contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually, helping fund essential hospital programs and services.
Volunteers of all ages, including high school and post-secondary students, are welcome to join according to Forsyth. She tells us student volunteers gain hands-on experience in the health care sector, which makes it an ideal opportunity for those considering careers in nursing, medicine, or life sciences.
