As the region braces for another blast of winter – and possibly up to 25 centimetres of snow – the public and Catholic school boards have confirmed full closures on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025.
Due to the extreme storm and weather predicted – including significant snowfall, freezing rain and ice pellets – the Kawartha, Pine Ridge District School Board says all KPR schools and buildings will be closed Thursday, Feb. 13.
The KPR closures are regionwide and impact all KPR schools, childcare centres, buildings and worksites, including education centres.
Meanwhile, the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board says all its schools, buildings and worksites will also be closed Thursday to all students and staff.
This also means before- and after-school programs will be cancelled.
The Catholic school board noted full-day childcare programs operating within schools will message families independently.
As previously reported, the region remains under a snowfall warning. Northumberland OPP has also issued a weather alert ahead of significant snowfall anticipated to start tonight and continuing into tomorrow.
OPP says roads will be slippery, and visibility will be reduced. Officials continue to urge residents to avoid non-essential travel, to plan ahead with emergency kits if on the road, and to utilize emergency detour routes (EDRs) in the event of road closures.
