For the first time in Ontario’s history, all major municipal organizations are chaired by women, marking a significant achievement in local government leadership.
The leaders include Mayor Amy Martin (Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus), Mayor Robin Jones (Association of Municipalities of Ontario), Mayor Christa Lowry (Rural Ontario Municipal Association), Warden Bonnie Clarke (Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus), Mayor Marianne Meed Ward (Ontario Big City Mayors), Chair Karen Redman (Mayors and Regional Chairs of Ontario), and Mayor Wendy Landry (Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association).
“This is a remarkable moment for municipal leadership in Ontario,” said Martin. “Having women in these key positions sends a strong message about the role women play in shaping our communities.”
The achievement is supported by a network of women providing operational support, including Kate Burns Gallagher (WOWC Executive Director), Lindsay Jones (AMO Policy Director), and Michelle Baker (OBCM Executive Director).
Robin Jones, AMO President, called this milestone “a testament to the incredible talent, expertise, and leadership of women in municipal government.”
On International Women’s Day, Ontario’s female municipal leaders were recognized for their dedication to strengthening communities and inspiring future leaders.
