Northumberland OPP say a Marmora man has been charged with two counts of sexual assault following investigation.
Police say the investigation began on March 13 after they received a report of a sexual assault alleged to have occurred in 2020 at a residence in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old man has been charged. Due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the individual’s name cannot be released since they were 17 years old at the time of the alleged offence.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
Authorities are reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences in Canada, meaning reports can be made to police at any time, regardless of when the incident occurred.
Those wishing to report a sexual assault can contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call 9-1-1 in emergencies. For those seeking support or unsure about reporting, Ontario 211 offers information on community, social, and government services.
