It may be spring, but come Monday, it’ll look more like Christmas downtown Port Hope.
The Municipality of Port Hope says a small film crew will be in the downtown area on Monday, March 24 for about 12 hours shooting scenes for an upcoming holiday movie: “Once Upon a Christmas Crown.”
Film crews are anticipated to be in place from about 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to the municipality, filming will be taking place inside and outside of G. Facey Clothing at 57 Walton St., and on the sidewalk in front of 8-12 Queen St.
“Set dressing and takedown will occur on the same day of shooting and will involve fake snow and Christmas decorations,” reads a recent notice from the municipality.
There will be impacts to area residents; however, the municipality says they will be minor.
Here’s what you should know:
The production company has paid for three parking spaces near the two film locations on Walton and Queen streets. The crew has also reserved 10 spaces in the Elias Street parking lot for the day.
The sidewalks will be closed in front of the two locations during outdoor filming, with pedestrian traffic diverted across the street.
No road closures are anticipated.
Officials also say that impacted area residents should have been notified with letters.
Port Hope has a dedicated film webpage with more information. Residents with questions can also contact film liaison Meg Ronson at 905-375-7607.
Over the years, Port Hope’s historic downtown has been transformed multiple times as iconic pictures filmed locally. The “IT” movies – and subsequent related TV series – as well as “Murdoch Mysteries” are some of the more well-known projects that have featured Port Hope prominently on the big screen.
However, over the years other projects have also chosen Port Hope, including “the Hardy Boys,” “Tommy Boy,” “Orphan,” and “Schitt’s Creek,” to name a few.
