Cobourg’s Victoria Hall Volunteers will host Canadian actor and author R.H. Thomson for a special event on May 2, 2025.
Thomson will discuss his book By the Ghost Light, which explores how nations remember their war dead and the lasting impact on their families.
Thomson’s deep connection to Canada’s military history stems from his family’s experiences during the First World War. His play the Lost Boys was inspired by letters from his five great-uncles who served, two of whom were killed in action.
Thomson has dedicated much of his career to honouring veterans. He co-created the World Remembers, a tribute that projects the names of fallen soldiers from 26 countries. The project’s extensive database contains over five million names.
The Victoria Hall event will include a book signing and refreshments. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Acanthus Interiors, Readers’ Noon, Furby House Books in Port Hope, and the Victoria Hall box office.
Victoria Hall Volunteers are celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2025. Over the past five decades, the group has raised more than $400,000 to help restore and preserve Cobourg’s historic Victoria Hall.
