A Port Hope man is facing multiple charges following an incident involving an incendiary device at Greenwood Towers on Peter Street.
Port Hope police say they were called to the building Tuesday morning after a device, similar to a smoke bomb, was set off inside. All residents were evacuated while police investigated a report of a second suspected device and assessed potential safety risks.
Evacuated residents were temporarily sheltered in Port Hope transit and school buses while the Town Park Recreation Centre was placed on standby. Port Hope firefighters assisted residents by providing coffee and snacks from a nearby coffee shop to help keep them comfortable.
A Port Hope man has since been charged with several offences under the Criminal Code, including making or possessing explosives for an unlawful purpose, causing an explosion likely to cause harm or property damage, mischief, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
