Fifteen members of Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services were recently honoured at a city council meeting as firefighters received long-service medals and bars from provincial and federal governments.
“These awards celebrate the commitment of individuals who have given many years of service to the safety and well-being of the Quinte West community,” explains the city.
The individuals honoured included:
Twenty-five-year provincial medal and pin recipients Cordell Deck, James Dick, Sterling Foster, Greg King, John Mitchell, Tom Schick, John Vries, and Michael Williams.

Thirty-year service bars went to Kyle Kietala, Mike Labelle, Jeff Wemyss, and Chris Wigley.
Combined, this year’s award recipients represent 425 years’ worth of unwavering service.
“Each of these firefighters has shown exceptional service and commitment to the Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services team and the Quinte West community,” added fire Chief John Whalen. “Their hard work and sacrifice are integral to ensuring the community’s safety, and we are grateful for their continued service.”
The city is also congratulating all recipients on their well-deserved awards, with thanks for their ongoing commitment to keeping Quinte West safe.
