A single-vehicle collision into a tree has led to nine charges for an Alnwick/Haldimand resident, say Northumberland OPP.
According to OPP, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at about 10:45 a.m., officers, fire and EMS responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the Division Street Roseneath area.
When police arrived on scene, officers found a vehicle had collided with a tree, reported OPP.
After speaking with the driver, police said an impaired operation investigation was initiated, and an approved screening device demand (breath sample) was made, with the motorist complying. Police said the result was a “fail,” and the accused was taken into custody and transported to a nearby detachment for further testing.
Further investigation allegedly revealed the accused was suspended from driving and led to a number of other offences.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 44-year-old Alnwick/Haldimand resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus,) operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, driving while under suspension, operate motor vehicle without insurance, novice driver – B.A.C. (blood alcohol concentration) above zero, fail to remain, use plate not authorized for vehicle, fail to notify change of address, and fail to apply for permit on becoming owner.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police continue to echo the call for citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911 and ask all motorists to plan ahead before drinking or consuming drugs.
