A team-up between Northumberland and Quinte West OPP has led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
Northumberland OPP said on Monday, March 24, 2025, at about 11 p.m., police received a report about a stolen pick-up truck travelling on eastbound Hwy. 401 in Alnwick/Haldimand.
The vehicle was believed to have been stolen from the Greater Toronto Area on the night of March 21, 2025, reported OPP.
Due to the direction of travel, Northumberland OPP said Quinte West OPP was notified, and the suspect vehicle was stopped near Glen Miller, where Northumberland officers helped with the incident.
The stop also led to an impaired driving investigation being initiated, with the accused apprehended for further testing at an OPP detachment. Police allege a search also turned up a small amount of suspected cocaine.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 22-year-old with no fixed address was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine, failure or refusal to comply with a demand, drive motor vehicle – no licence, failure to signal – lane change, and failure to surrender insurance card.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was held initially for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
