This June you can hit the links and help the humane society address growing numbers of abandoned, abused, neglected and surrendered animals.
The Rushnell Charity Classic Golf Tournament will return to Corbyville at the Trillium Wood Golf Course on June 6, 2025. Monies raised through the best ball tourney will go towards helping animals in need at Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward.
“My family, along with many volunteers, are delighted and honoured by the participation we experienced at last year’s tournament and the funding it generated for HSHPE,” said Ashley Rushnell, tournament organizer. “Needless to say, we are thrilled to announce the return of this special and successful fundraiser.”
Known for their support of many community organizations and a love of animals, Rushnell Family Funeral Homes are locally-owned and have “adopted” the society as one of their principal charities, reads a recent release.
Meanwhile, society board chair Greg Sudds said proceeds from the tourney will be a big help.
“The rise in animal care costs have significantly increased in the last few years and the much-needed support is a welcome relief on the HSHPE’s limited resources,” said Sudds. “Renewed support of all HSHPE patrons and initiatives such as the Rushnell golf tournament are vital to the ongoing funding of the operations of the shelter.”
The tourney has again nearly sold-out – but people interested in sponsorships, donating auction items and prizes are still asked to reach out, with this helping maximize fundraising efforts, noted organizers.
Rushnell is extending a special round of thanks to returning golfers and sponsors and a warm welcome to new teams.
A number of area businesses and organizations have already stepped up to support the effort, including Maple Dale Cheese, McDougall Insurance and Financial, Belmont long-term care, Johnson Plumbing, Passage, and West City Honda.
“On behalf of my colleague board members, staff and four-legged companions, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Rushnell family, sponsors and participants for their devoted compassion for our animals in need,” said Sudds. “We certainly look forward to another fun and prosperous day on the golf course.”
