With spring in the air, many gardeners in Northumberland are beginning to look ahead to getting their gardens in shape for the year. This Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10 am til noon, the Cobourg Library will host it’s annual Plant Swap which happens to coincide with the opening of their Seed Library. The event aims to promote sustainable gardening while encouraging community connections through shared knowledge and resources.
So how does the plant swap work? It’s pretty simple, you bring in a house plant and you can swap it for something different.
The library’s Rachel Spence explains.
Spence tells us the plant swap is not only a great way to get some new plants for your home, but it’s also a fun social event.
According to Spence, the seed library is made possible by the help of some outstanding volunteers who package the seeds – some organic, some heirloom, including vegetables, fruits, herbs and more.
Spence tells us how it works.
The event is free to attend but if you want to participate in the plant swap you’ll need to bring in something to trade. Spence tells us that attendees are more than happy to pass on their knowledge and having two master gardeners on hand to answer questions will make it an event not to be missed for anyone thinking of taking up gardening for the first time.
