The Polar Plunge event set for today (Sunday, March 30) in Brighton has been cancelled due to this weekend’s ice storm.
Northumberland OPP and Brighton Fire and Rescue, along with supporters, were set to take the plunge into the icy waters at the government dock starting today at 10 a.m.
However, organizers have confirmed the event has been called off, saying it was a difficult decision made with the safety of participants, volunteers, organizers and supporters as the top priority.
And while the plunge won’t be happening this year now, organizers have announced more than $5,200 has been raised in support of Special Olympics Ontario athletes, shattering the previously announced $4,000 goal for the first-time OPP-hosted event.
Thirty-four plungers had registered for Sunday’s event, with OPP saying the community has shown outstanding commitment to supporting local athletes.
Organizers said they’re looking forward to making the 2026 Brighton Polar Plunge bigger and better.
“A huge thank you to everyone who contributed – your generosity and dedication continue to make a difference,” said OPP.
