Just like the public board, the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board will be resuming operations on Wednesday, April 2 in most of its schools.
Board officials said following further assessments, schools will reopen on a school-by-school basis, depending on power restoration and site safety.
Here’s the latest from the board:
Northumberland: All schools will be open April 2, with the exception of St. Mary CES in Campbellford.
Clarington: All schools open April 2.
City of Peterborough: All schools will be open for students and staff who can attend safely, except for Immaculate Conception CES.
Peterborough County: All schools remain closed Wednesday, April 2 due to continued power outages.
City of Kawartha Lakes: Schools are open Wednesday for students and staff who can safely attend, except for St. Luke CES (Downeyville.)
However, board officials are warning that student transportation may be unavailable in some areas as bus operators may still be without power and unable to safely transport students. Families are encouraged to keep an eye on www.stsco.ca for Peterborough, Northumberland, Clarington and www.mybustoschool.ca in Kawartha.
Crossing guard services may also be limited. Municipalities are working to deploy crossing guards, but coverage cannot be guaranteed in all areas, noted the board.
The board also continues to encourage families to plan children’s routes safely, keeping in mind that some sidewalks still aren’t cleared, and traffic lights may not be functioning properly at certain intersections.
Conditions could also change. The power grid remains unstable and schools with power Tuesday may experience outages again, added officials.
“We are closely monitoring the weather forecast as more inclement weather may be on the way. As conditions continue to evolve, school status may change, and we will provide updates as soon as they become available.
“We remain committed to keeping families informed and appreciate your continued support and flexibility as we work to maintain safe school communities.”
