Northumberland County is inviting homeowners to take charge of their energy efficiency and reduce utility costs with a free virtual Home Efficiency Retrofit Orientation (HERO) session on Tuesday, April 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Led by building science experts from Humber College, the session will provide practical guidance on energy-saving home upgrades that can enhance comfort while lowering environmental impact. Enbridge Gas and GreenUP are also supporting the event as part of Northumberland County’s Climate Action Strategy.
“Improving energy efficiency is vital for both reducing emissions and lowering utility costs,” said Korey McKay, Northumberland County Environmental Officer. “By investing in energy-efficient upgrades, homeowners can contribute to climate action while also benefiting from long-term financial savings.”
Participants will learn about rebate programs available to help with insulation, heating and cooling systems, window upgrades, and reducing air leakage. The event also includes a chance to win a YETI cooler, a prize aimed at supporting a sustainable lifestyle.
The session aligns with Northumberland County’s broader environmental initiatives, including the Corporate Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan and the Adaptation and Resiliency Plan.
Residents interested in cutting energy costs and reducing their carbon footprint are encouraged to register at Northumberland.ca/HERO.
