
It’s been another busy few days for Northumberland OPP, with assault, impaired, mischief and additional charges laid.
Here’s the latest rundown:
ASSAULT CHARGES LAID IN BRIGHTON
On April 6, 2025, at about 10:50 a.m., police said they responded to a dispute at a residence in the Municipality of Brighton where one person sustained minor injuries. Officers arrived and took one person into custody in relation to the incident.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 31-year-old Brighton man was charged with assault with a weapon, assault, mischief – destroys and damages property, and uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.
Police said the accused won’t be named to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused will appear in court at a later date.
401 COMPLAINTS LEAD TO IMPAIRED CHARGES:
On April 4, shortly after 1 p.m., police said they received multiple complaints about a pick-up truck travelling eastbound on Hwy. 401. Callers reportedly told police the vehicle was unable to maintain its lane and was travelling at a high rate of speed.
Police said the vehicle was stopped on Hwy. 401 in Trenton and after speaking to the driver, an impaired operation investigation was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, police said the individual was taken into custody and transported to a nearby detachment for further testing.
The accused is a 48-year-old Kingston resident who was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), dangerous operation, and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available.
In addition to being dished out a future court date, the accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days, reported OPP.
DAMAGE TO RESIDENCE REPORT LEADS TO ARREST:
On April 4, 2025, at about 8 a.m., police said a member of the public reported that a person was causing damage to a residence and threatening people on Canrobert Street in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
When officers arrived on scene and made an arrest, the accused allegedly resisted.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 32-year-old Trent Hills resident was charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling house, assault, uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm, mischief – destroys or damages property, assault with intent to resist arrest, mischief – interferes with lawful use of property.
The accused will appear in Cobourg court at a later date.
CRASH LEADS TO CHARGE:
On April 3, at about 10:40 p.m., police said they responded to a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 westbound in the Township of Hamilton.
When police arrived on scene, they said a passenger vehicle was in the ditch and there were no injuries.
After reportedly speaking with the driver, an impaired operation investigation was started, with the motorist taken into custody and further tests undertaken by a drug recognition evaluator at a nearby detachment.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 50-year-old from Nova Scotia was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The accused also had their licence further suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for a week.
None of the charges in the above unrelated alleged incidents have been proven in court.
