Martial arts competitors of all ages and skill levels will gather in Cobourg for the 11th annual Southern Ontario Spring Martial Arts International on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
The day-long event takes place at the Cobourg Community Centre, with the first matches kicking off at 9:30 a.m. Organized by Grandmaster Jonathan Field of Cobourg Tae Kwon Do, the event is sanctioned by the American Breaking and Combative Taekwondo Federation, Kokoro Breaking Federation, International Sport Karate Federation, and Filipino Combat League.
Field tells us what to expect.
Events include taekwondo forms, point sparring, traditional weapons, musical forms, and board breaking. There will also be Kokoro and ISKA breaking events, with winners earning qualification for international championships later this year.
Master Abby Elder tells us she’s thrilled to see more women competing this year.
According to Field, this will be a special year for Master Abby.
Eight Grand Championship belts will be awarded – four in sparring and four in board breaking – based on points earned across multiple events in age-specific divisions.
Master Abby tells the competitors are there to do more than just win.
The tournament is open to all ages and ranks, with divisions structured for fair, competitive matchups. The public is invited to come out and enjoy with tickets priced at just $10 per person.
