Volunteers are set to shine next week at a special ceremony in Brighton.
Normally, around this time of year, Brighton hosts its “Citizen of the Year” celebration. Come May 1, the gathering has transitioned to the “Community Service Excellence Awards” ceremony – and organizers have plans to honour even more volunteers.
“This event promises to be an exciting occasion that highlights the exceptional contributions of our residents who make Brighton a better place,” says Mayor Brian Ostrander, who tells us more about how volunteers are the lifeblood of the community, and the goal of this event is to ultimately honour the spirit of service that defines Brighton.
On the agenda for the celebration is the presentation of the “2025 Brighton Community Service Excellence Award,” which is described as a prestigious award honouring individuals who go above and beyond when it comes to contributing to the well-being of the community through their volunteerism.
Meanwhile, to further acknowledge the diverse range of volunteers in the community, there will be “Spirit of Service” awards dished out.
Ultimately, the evening will shine a light on those who’ve selflessly shared their time in service of their community. The ceremony will be hosted on Thursday, May 1 at the Owen Gibb Community Hall.
Ostrander tells us the plan is to continue honouring even more volunteers for years to come.
In terms of just how many folks may be in the spotlight this year, people will just have to stay tuned – but Ostrander does tell us a little more about the big night.
More information is available online. Doors are set to open at 5 p.m., with the evening officially getting underway at 5:30 p.m. with speeches, light refreshments, and of course, the awards.
The celebration is also being hosted during National Volunteer Week.
