To help raise funds for new stretchers at the ER at Trenton Memorial Hospital, “Bed Races” are making a comeback.
The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation says the event is set for June 22 at the Homestead Marketplace.
“In a fun twist, the beds being raced are specially crafted by students from the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, then decorated by participating teams before hitting the track,” says the foundation. “Teams will race their uniquely designed beds for a great cause as they compete to be the fastest – and most creative – on wheels.”
The foundation notes that stretchers are a vital part of emergency care, used constantly to transport and treat patients safely and efficiently. Funds raised will help purchase modern stretchers to support the life-saving work of the ER team, “ensuring better care when every second counts.”
“We’re so excited to bring back the ‘Bed Races’ and invite the community to be a part of something energetic, fun, and impactful,” says Lindsay Butcher Dodds, the foundation’s executive director. “It’s a chance to engage with your team or business and help fund one of the most essential pieces of hospital equipment: the stretcher.”
Teams are encouraged to participate in advance of race day, rallying their networks in support of local healthcare, explains the foundation. The day will also feature family-friendly activities and community fun for all ages, making it a perfect way to kick-off summer with purpose, add organizers.
