Belleville police are calling on the public for help after a driver allegedly failed to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed earlier this week.
On the morning of Thursday, April 24, 2025, a member of the Belleville Police Service traffic safety unit reported observing a vehicle speeding on Dundas Street West in a 50 km/h zone.
The officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but police said the vehicle allegedly refused to stop and took off northbound on Wright Avenue at “a high rate of speed.”
“The officer did not initiate a vehicle pursuit after weighing the safety risks to the surrounding public,” said police.
The fleeing vehicle was described as a black Nissan Kick, with an Ontario plate marker of DERT 342 and was found to be a rental vehicle, reported police.
Not long after the alleged incident, police said the city’s CCTV camera system picked up the suspect vehicle at the intersection of Bell Boulevard and North Front Street.
Police said their investigation is ongoing, and the rental driver will be facing numerous charges.
The service is asking anyone with information on who may be operating the vehicle to contact Const. Fyke at 613-966-0882 ext. 4160 or pfyke@bellevilleps.ca.
