It is with deep sadness, Mayor Panciuk, members of Belleville City Council and City employees have learned of the passing of former City Councillor Mike Graham. Mike was elected to City Council in 2014 after 32 years with the Belleville Police Service, from which he retired as an Inspector in 2013. He served on City Council from 2014 – 2018.
A life-long resident of Belleville, Mike joined the Belleville Police Service as a Patrol Officer in 1982, moved on to drug enforcement and intelligence, advanced to Staff Sergeant and was then promoted to the rank of Inspector. Most of his career was spent in the drugs and major crime division. He was a key initiator of the provincial award winning Project Longarm for excellence in crime fighting.
An active community member, deeply committed to Belleville, Mike served on a wide range of committees in his role as City Councillor. He was also a past board member of the Addictions Centre for Hastings County, coached minor sports and refereed hockey for 35 years.
“Mike was a valued member of our City and was proud to serve on Belleville City Council,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “He lived an active life, involved in the community in so many ways and was well-known and respected by many. Mike’s passing leaves a deep void in our community and we extend sincere condolences to his wife Margot and their family.”
The flag at Belleville City Hall flag has been lowered to honour Mike Graham and his contributions to our City.
