Brighton’s new Off Leash Dog Park officially opened Friday morning. The Dog Park is located along County Road 64 on property owned by GFL Environmental Inc. The municipality says the company generously offered to help Brighton in its search for a new Dog Park. It’s previous location was closed last year at the request of new property owners.
GFL says it’s pleased to donate part of the company’s land, to accommodate the new dog park in Brighton. “This grand opening comes at a great time, with summer just beginning and residents being able to venture out of their homes as social distancing restrictions ease” said GFL Site Manager Giulia Kostin. “It has been a trying few months with Covid-19, but we hope that having the dog park re-open will bring some much-needed relief to the residents and their pups. We thank you for letting us be a part of this community, and hope everyone enjoys this paw-sitive addition to the Municipality of Brighton” said Kostin.
A new parking lot has been constructed for the off leash dog park. Time and equipment were for donated by Steve Crowe Excavating Ltd. of Brighton.
Funding of this project was provided for in Brighton’s 2020 Municipally approved Parks and Recreation Capital budget. “We are very excited to be able to open Brighton’s brand new off leash dog park” said Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander. “This facility will allow dog owners an opportunity to provide their pups with an off-leash experience,” said Ostrander.
The Municipality is looking to name the dog park and will be launching a naming contest on social media in the near future for suggestions on what to name it. For more information please contact Director of Parks and Recreation Jim Millar at 613-475-0302, millar@brighton.ca
