Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has confirmed one new case of COVID-19 in Northumberland County. The public health unit also says six people are considered high risk contacts, meaning they’ve been close to someone who later went on to test positive for novel coronavirus.
The latest infections raise the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the HKPR District to 234 since the start of the pandemic. The majority of the cases have been in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Also today (Sept 18), Premier Doug Ford said stricter limits on social gatherings are now in effect in Toronto, Peel Region and Ottawa will also be imposed on other regions.
Ford says he’s very concerned after Ontario reported 401 new cases of COVID-19 today — the highest number since early June.
Toronto, Peel and Ottawa remain the virus hots-spots but Ford says other mayors and public health officials want new limits in their communities too.
Ford hopes to expand COVID-19 testing to Ontario pharmacies by late next week.
