Locally, the HKPR District Health Unit is reporting 8 new COVID-19 cases in our region: 3 in Northumberland and 5 in Kawartha Lakes.
There is also an additional death in our region, bringing the death toll in Northumberland County to 5.
62 more people have died from the virus in Ontario.
The province is also reporting 33-hundred-26 new cases today (Jan 14) as its stay-at-home order begins.
The province is urging residents only to leave home for essential purposes.
The province has said there’s no set definition for what is “essential” because everyone has unique circumstances.
Premier Doug Ford has urged people to use their “best judgment” in deciding whether to go out.
In Northumberland, there is now 29 unresolved cases in our county, with 281 resolved to date.
Since the start of the pandemic there have been 682 cases in the health unit’s region.
The health unit has listed 50 as high risk contacts in Northumberland, meaning 50 Northumberland County residents have recently been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

Also, fifty Ontario labour inspectors will be out this weekend enforcing new public health rules at big-box stores in Toronto, Hamilton, Peel Region, York Region and Durham Region.
They have the power to issue tickets to store supervisors, workers, or customers not following rules about wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and following safety guidelines.
