It appears the Gypsy Moth outbreak in Northumberland may be peaking.
A published report says a natural virus and fungus that affects the moths caterpillars seems to be helping.
Anecdotally, some residents in the region who’ve been battling the insects that are ravaging their trees say they’ve noticed fewer live caterpillars and an increase in dead ones on their property.
In Northumberland County Forest staff are making similar observations and note some defoliated trees are sprouting leaves again.
However the caterpillars remain active in the region prompting some residents to urge the province to do more in the fight against the Gypsy Moth.
