Seven local students have received scholarships from the Kay Stafford Memorial Grant program administered by the Trenton Memorial Hospital (TMH) Foundation and Brighton’s own, Molly Hussey, has been named as this year’s East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS) winner.
Along with the community organization grants, each year the TMH Foundation also awards area high school students who are graduating and intending to pursue post-secondary education in a healthcare field. These students receive a bursary of $1,000 each towards their studies.
This year’s East Northumberland Secondary School winner is Molly Hussey who will be pursuing her Bachelor of Science, Nursing at McMaster University in Hamilton in the fall.
Molly Hussey, from Brighton, has always wanted to be a nurse and already understands how important these nurses and other front line health professionals are to their patients and to the community.
She is excited to attend McMaster’s School of Nursing which is internationally renowned for its innovation in nursing education. They have a reputation for developing and enhancing capacity for nursing education across the globe while delivering high-quality, responsive and student-centred education programs in Hamilton.
Molly also loves the dramatic arts too and intends to continue to participate in them as her studies will allow.
“While the community lost Kay Stafford more than 22 years ago, she left us with a gift that keeps giving and we are honoured to award area students with these $1,000 bursaries each year,” said Wendy Warner – Executive Director of TMH Foundation. “Molly and all the other bursary winners are definitely keeping her legacy alive as they become health professionals themselves and keep quality health care resources in our communities.”
This year’s other $1,000 bursary winners include:
· Amy MacLean from Bayside Secondary School, who will be taking the Health Sciences program at Ottawa University
· Carolane Dagenais from École Secondaire Publique Marc-Garneau, who will be pursuing Nursing at Cégep de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
