Pickleballers in Brighton now have a new spot to call home.
Four new Pickleball courts were opened at King Edward Park this past Friday.
MP Philip Lawrence, MPP David Piccini, and Mayor Brian Ostrander were on hand to celebrate the opening, which was made possible by a $100,000 grant the Municipality received in combined Federal-Provincial funding through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream.
The initiative to build the courts came about from some local enthusiasts, who presented council with the idea several years ago and have been working diligently to see it come to fruition.
It was spearheaded by Laura Quirk, the president of the Brighton Pickleball Club, who said she is beyond happy to see the project completed.
Piccini praised Laura’s and the community’s hard work.
Ostrander said this is an example of the community taking action to make things happen.
A recycled rubber trail connecting the Pickleball Courts to the rest of the park was constructed from an $18,000 donation from Kal Tire.
