After a 2 year hiatus, the Colborne Art Gallery is presenting their 9th Annual Juried Show until November 6th, 2022 in their space in downtown Colborne.
Carlyn Moulton from the Oeno Gallery in Prince Edward County acted as this year’s Jurist, selecting and curating 34 pieces on display from 95 entries.
“We have 2-dimensional pieces, paintings in acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel and even have one graphic artist who did a mixed media piece,” said Roseanne Dolan – Artist in the cooperative at the Colborne Art Gallery. “We even have an exciting 3-dimensional piece from a jewelry maker this year.”
The show runs until November 6th, 2022 and the Colborne Art Gallery offers the pieces for sale, to be picked up after the show.
“We want people to have a real gallery experience, to showcase the mind and heart of our artists,” added Dolan. “But all the pieces are available for sale too.”
This year’s Michael Hepburn Award – Juror’s Choice as selected by Carlyn is a painting by Nancy Bennett called “Tread Lightly”, with honourable mentions to Wrex Roth for ”Viaduct III” and Carole Nelson for “Winter Storm Breaking”.
Mayor Mandy Martin of Cramahe Township also selected her favourite piece awarding Elayne Windsor’s painting called “Subtext”, the Mayor’s Choice Award.
“We are very proud of this year’s show and honoured to have Carlyn choose the pieces,” added Moulton. “She has had a life-long passion for the arts and has worked as a consultant with the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council, and numerous performing arts organizations.”
Also on display in the Heritage Room is Jackson from the Yellow Bordello in Warkworth’s personal collection of washing basins and chamber pots, showing that even utilitarian items have historical significance but are in their own way, works of art too.
The gallery is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm. Visitors are free to browse both the Juried Show along with the displays in the Heritage Room.
