The effort to restore and save St. Peter’s Church has had a huge success, but there’s still a way to go.
The church requires work to be done to the roof, ceiling and bell tower, and a recent campaign to raise funds for the repairs garnered more than $180,000 in less than two months.
Randy Barber, co-chair of the fundraising committee and vice president of the Cobourg and District Historical Society said it’s important to preserve our history.
Peter Delanty, former mayor of Cobourg and co-chair of the fundraising committee said they’re not quite to the goal just yet.
Through parish contributions, donations from the public, a few grants and loans, and a fundraiser dinner back in August, the total raised is now $1.58M, inching closer to its goal of $2.7M.
Delanty said he believes they’re close enough to the goal that the difference can be made up in order to carry on with all the work.
Even though the campaign has ended, anyone who still wants to make a donation are able to do so on the campaign’s Canada Helps webpage.
