During the storm last weekend, the Keelor Centre in Colborne had approximately 520 stranded travelers including tour buses and others who could not navigate the highway.
Donna Rusaw owner of Black Dress Catering told us she got the call for help, but she was stuck too.
Donna’s company regularly works out of the Keelor Centre supporting Meals on Wheels twice a week, so when the storm hit, she already had food in the fridges.
In the face of so many people though it wouldn’t last long, but the community rallied to help out hundreds of strangers.
Donna said she was beyond words to describe the way folks went out of their way to lead a hand.
Rusaw told us she did her best to organize things so every diet was considered and food was distributed on both floors of the Centre.
The spirit of the season was in full force at the Keelor Centre and they became the hub of food preparation for many groups sheltering from the storm.
Donna remarked on how everyone lent a hand.
Rusaw told us she was overwhelmed by the support from volunteers, local grocers, police, firefighters, paramedics, the Red Cross and Rob O’Neil from Northumberland County’s Food 4 All Warehouse.
